Jabbar Signed
Why did Kareem Abdul-Jabbar drop the *Kareem* part of his name?
My son and I met my all time favorite player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar last night..The book he signed, has his full name on front, but more bold Abdul-Jabbar, articles-past/present..I'm seeing them do it as well when speaking about him..Does anyone know why he has chosen do to this????

BTW..He did sign both mine/my son's books as, Abdul-Jabbar.
Athletes are frequently referred to by their last names so he might have simply decided that it is easier to sign things as Abdul-Jabbar. It's not the name he was born with anyway (Lew Alcindor) so it doesn't really surprise me that he would shorten it.
