How to sow a graphic design on a leg portion of jeans w/out sowing the whole thing?

I will admit in a rookie when it comes to sowing and i want to design my own pants in the future. The only problem is: how am i going to be able to design the leg portion without sowing the leg potion together. I'm looking for experienced users answers only. Also, i already thought about removing the sown thread from the side of the leg to be able to work on the leg portion. If that's the only option let me know. Thanks.

In commercial jeans production legs are sewn separate as tubes, then the tubes are sewn together. In commercial production when there is an embellishment on the outer leg the out-seam is sewn before the inseam. At that stage an embellishments and graphic can be sewn, air brushed, glued or silk screened on.

If you the design doesn't go across a seam, then the embellishment phase can happen before the sewing and after the cutting. be sure an metal studs or glass crystals don't end up in the seam allowance.

Some stud and nailheads, the ones on the seams are placed using cylinder riveting machines, they exert great pressure on the stud, nailhead or rivet, the beds are thin enough that a finished leg can go in. There are also cylinder bed sewing machines used in the industry.

If the jeans are embellished over the outseam they have the outseam sewn first, they go to the art department and then back to the sewing room. The jeans then have the inseam sewn so the pant is now a tube, then the two legs are placed one inside the other and the tubes sewn up, the fly inserted and the waist band sewn on. Oh yes, the fancy stitched pockets? Those are done on special machines called pattern stitchers. they are used for pocket embellishing, attaching patch pockets, and anything that requires a programmable stitching patterns

Commercial denim production relies on specialized industrial machines, for example the waist band is sewn on in one piece without pressing or folding, there are other machines that do specialized jobs. I outsource denim, and have had then shipped flat to me for extra special embellishment, then I ship them back for sewing and finishing. Needless to say, this makes for very expensive jeans. This is why some high level embellished jeans are so expensive. Some designers embellish finished jeans, this is fine if you are just air brushing or sandblasting and there's no embroidery or crystals or painting. If you do small lots or personal lots you can use their method of sewing the out-seam first and embellishing that, then complete the pants from there.

If you are serious about design then fashion design school is the way to go. The offer courses in denim design and production and it teaches you everything you need to know. Once you have your degree you will know the language needed to communicate with your outsourcers and your contractors.
