How important is a caddy to a golfers success?

Seriously, you have got to be freaking kidding me. I mean, they probably just drive the golf cart and hand the clubs to the golfer. This whole thing with Tigers Woods caddy getting media attention is hogwash! I would be embarrassed to be known publicly to the world as a caddy....... "Hey world, I wash dishes at Tiger Woods. I'm the worlds best dish washer?" Come on seriously!!!

PGA Tour pros do not ride carts. They walk.

Caddies work without contracts (meaning they can be fired at anytime for no reason beyond the player "wanting to make a change"), and have to be equal parts bag toter, confidante, psychologist, coach, magnet for verbal abuse, advisor, rangefinder, GPS, and butler.

YOU try carrying a 50# bag on a 6-mile walk in hot humid conditions AND do everything I described above, all while knowing that one minor mistake (a wrong yardage, a bad read on a putt) gets you fired.

Oh, and do this knowing that if your player misses the cut on Friday, odds are you're probably losing money that week (whatever fixed amount you get for the loop, it won't cover your travel expenses which are the responsibility of the caddy). Sure, the winning caddy (out of 156 players at most events) will typically (not always but typically) pocket 10% of their player's winnings (the scale goes down for top 10, top 20, and making the cut- no set scale and negotiated between player and caddy) but on Friday there's usually 80-90 guys losing money.

Before a tournament (Mon-Wed) the caddy will walk the course (6-7 miles over hilly terrain in whatever weather mother nature throws at them) 1-2 times to get yardages, PLUS the practice rounds. A typical Tour caddy works 10+ hours a day at tournaments (Mon-Sun hopefully).
